Millions of Americans Attempt to Unsubscribe After Federal Taxes Rebranded as "America+ Subscription"
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Internal Revenue Service’s ambitious effort to “modernize the American customer experience” ended in disaster Monday after rebranding federal income taxes as the America+ Subscription Plan, prompting millions of Americans to immediately search for the cancellation button.
The IRS website crashed less than four minutes after launch and remains offline as of this writing.
“We were encouraged by initial engagement,” said IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel. “Then we realized everyone was trying to unsubscribe from America.”
“It’s essentially an unintentional DDoS attack,” explained one cybersecurity analyst while repeatedly refreshing the IRS homepage. “Everyone’s just waiting for the website to come back online so they can unsubscribe.”
According to the agency, the rebranding was designed to make taxes “feel less like a tax and more like a premium service.” The rollout included an updated language describing federal income tax as “Flexible Means-Tested Pricing,” available in convenient monthly or annual billing cycles.
Americans were less impressed.
“I already subscribe to Netflix, Spotify, Disney+, Xbox Game Pass, YouTube Premium, and Costco,” complained Denver resident Tyler Brooks while desperately refreshing the IRS cancellation page. “I’m okay with skipping the Trump Administration. I watched the first four seasons. The reboot just isn’t doing it for me.”
Trump-appointed IRS officials appeared flummoxed by the backlash.
“It’s the exact same federal taxes, just with different words,” one official explained. “But now everyone suddenly expects something in return.”
“Why does Norway’s Family Plan come with paid parental leave?” complained one longtime Republican voter. “Meanwhile, I have to pay extra for the UnitedHealthcare add-on like it’s Hulu. I already subscribe to Disney+.”
When asked to reconcile those views with his “All Taxation is theft” T-Shirt, he replied: “Free healthcare is socialism, but it wouldn’t be free if America includes it in their subscription. That’s capitalism, baby.”
The IRS attempted to calm subscribers by publishing a list of premium membership benefits, though the legal department appears to have muddied the messaging.

The fine print only intensified criticism.
“It says here they’ll put you in prison if you stop paying your subscription,” said one subscriber. “That’s almost as bad as Adobe.”
“Has anybody actually read the Terms and Conditions?” another asked. “Did you know they can literally force you into the army? I was all for the Iran War, but now? Screw it. I’m out.”
Leaked documents also show the agency quietly introduced a premium tier for their high-net-worth subscribers. Known internally as the America+ Platinum Elite Executive Founders Club Diamond Eagle Edition, the package includes several exclusive benefits:
Complimentary tote bag
Priority congressional support
Expedited regulatory approval
The “Good” vaccines
One “Get Out of Jail Free” card
Unlimited capital gains
One complimentary United States Senator
Subscribers expressed outrage after learning Platinum members also pay substantially lower rates than Standard users.
“So let me get this straight,” said construction worker Dave Mullins. “I’m paying thirty percent, and they’re paying twelve? These people shouldn’t exist.”
Asked whether he meant billionaires shouldn’t exist, Mullins quickly clarified: “What? No. I love billionaires. I’m specifically saying America+ Platinum Elite Executive Founders Club Diamond Eagle Edition members shouldn’t exist.”
When asked for comment, one IRS spokesperson clarified, “The senator isn’t technically free. They’re bundled. You know... like ESPN.”
At press time, the IRS was rolling out the America+ Family Plan, allowing parents to add dependent children to their subscription at a discounted rate until age eighteen, after which they are automatically upgraded to America+ Student Edition, which includes complimentary lifelong debt and HPV.
